Why Raw Dairy is the Best Choice for Milk Products

Raw dairy is an incredible source of various bio-available nutrients but isn't widely taught about.

Some of the benefits of raw dairy include:

1. AMAZING source of healthy fat.

As you guys know from reading my other posts, a few things that healthy fat is crucial for within our bodies is building cell membranes and certain hormones. It also increases satiety and helps regulate the speed we digest food. Plus it makes everything taste more delicious!

2. Rich in various micronutrients.

“Micronutrients” is just a fancy word for vitamins and minerals. Usually in processed milk products, the vitamins are cooked out during the processing stage, and synthetic ones are added back in. Raw dairy is cleaned in a way that keeps all of the nutrients and good bacteria intact.

3. Rich in antioxidants, food enzymes, and beneficial bacteria.

We have a ton of bacteria (gut bugs) within our gut, and the beneficial bacteria in raw dairy help to feed our good gut bugs. This helps to improve gut health and therefore improve overall health.

4. Contains the enzyme needed to digest it properly.

There is a digestive enzyme called lactase that is needed to properly digest dairy products. Because of the way that common dairy products are processed, lactase is usually removed. Since raw dairy contains this digestive enzyme, people who usually have an intolerance to dairy products usually do not have an issue with raw dairy.

If you can't buy raw dairy...

If raw dairy is not an option then I would look for dairy products that are from grass-fed cows. Milk produced from cows fed on grass is very rich in healthy fats and vitamins A, E, and K. If possible, make sure to stay away from cows who were raised indoors or with antibiotics and growth hormones. Indoor cows do not produce milk with as high of healthy fat content because they are usually fed food with grains, soy, and sometimes CANDY to encourage more milk production. They are also milked more often leading to a lower nutritional value of their milk.

Organic milk is also a good middle-ground option. The cows are still fed some grains, but they are not allowed to be fed antibiotics or growth hormones.

Raw dairy can be more expensive than what is offered in most grocery stores, but the cost is definitely worth the benefits that it supplies to your body. Plus it is SO yummy!
